Outstanding Alumni Awards

Lynn A. CalpeterLynn A. Calpeter '86 is executive vice president and chief financial officer of NBC Universal, a role she has held since May 2004. She is responsible for NBC Universal's financial planning and operations and plays a key role in the company's strategic business initiatives. She reports directly to Jeff Zucker, the chief executive officer of NBC Universal.

Prior to this role, Lynn had served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of NBC. Before that, she was chief financial officer of the NBC Television Stations Division from 1999 to 2001, after which time she served as vice president of the General Electric Corporate Audit Staff in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Lynn joined GE in 1986 through the company's Financial Management Program. Following the Financial Management Program, she spent six years on the GE Corporate Audit Staff, where she was involved in several operational and financial audits at a number of GE businesses, including Aircraft Engines, Plastics, and NBC. In 1993, Calpeter joined GE Plastics, where she served in a number of positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in her appointment in 1998 as Manager, GEP Global PSI.

She is currently chair of the Dyson Undergraduate Program Advisory Council at Cornell, of which she has been a member since 2003. As chair, Lynn is focused on her plans to engage members of the council in discussing issues of greatest strategic importance. Her many years of corporate leadership positions clearly exhibit her strong ability to lead and to think strategically about issues of positioning, marketing, budgeting, profit centers, and finance. She also serves as an Executive Board member of GlamourGals Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Rachel Doyle '05. Despite her very busy schedule, Lynn is deeply committed to CALS and Cornell. She has been a frequent guest lecturer in courses on accounting, leadership, and women in business, as well as a strong supporter of student financial aid through an endowed scholarship. Her videos on e-Clips are used significantly in Cornell and other courses. Originally from Syracuse, New York, Lynn is widely regarded as a role model for women and young people, demonstrating that with hard work, focus, a high moral standard and commitment to excellence one can rise to the upper levels of corporate America while remaining true to your values.
